Today, we gather to honor the life and legacy of Sergeant Lucas T. Pyeatt, a true embodiment of the United States Marine Corps ethos. Born in Lakenheath, Suffolk, England, on March 5th, 1986, Lucas was a beacon of light from his earliest days. Raised in Newport News, Virginia, his insatiable curiosity and multifaceted talents marked him as a Renaissance man among his peers. He rode a motorcycle and dreamed of owning a ranch one day.

Following in the footsteps of his father, a distinguished Air Force veteran, Lucas enlisted in the Marine Corps, driven by a profound sense of duty to his nation. A devout member of the Latter Day Saints, he learned Russian to perform a mission in St Petersburg. These skills served him well after he enlisted in the Marine Corps as a cryptologic linguist. Lucas embarked on his first deployment to the unforgiving battlefields of southern Afghanistan as a team leader with Charlie Company, 2d Radio Battalion in 2011.

During his brief yet impactful time in Afghanistan, Sergeant Pyeatt’s leadership and technical acumen proved indispensable in gathering critical signals intelligence on enemy insurgent operations. His selfless sacrifice and unwavering commitment to his fellow Marines exemplified the core values of the Marine Corps, earning him the respect and admiration of all who served alongside him.

Tragically, Lucas’s life was cut short while on patrol on February 5th 2011, when he fell victim to an improvised explosive device. His untimely passing sent shockwaves through the Marine Corps community, leaving behind a void that can never be filled. Yet, his spirit lives on in the hearts of all who knew him, forever remembered for his boundless kindness, compassion, and unwavering loyalty.

As we bid farewell to Sergeant Lucas T. Pyeatt, let us honor his memory by embodying the same principles of courage, integrity, and selflessness that defined his life. Though gone from this world, his legacy endures as a testament to the enduring spirit of the United States Marine Corps. Semper Fidelis, Sergeant Pyeatt. You will never be forgotten.
