Key Terrain Cyber is launching its inaugural class of LtCol Kevin Shea senior fellows. to augment our Corporal Garrett Jones NCO fellowship. Our goal is to pair each research fellow with a civilian leader, educator, field grade officer, or senior staff NCO to help them develop a research idea for publication on our site.
We will accept any research topic related to cyberspace warfare, military intelligence, communications, public affairs, psychological operations, space, and information operations. Anything related to Marine Recon or special operations is also welcome.
We need to develop our young people to lead the next generation of warfighters into our future conflicts. I believe that we can help them grow into the leaders we need them to become through mentorship, research, and writing.
LtCol Shea graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy in 1989 and commissioned into the Marine Corps as a Second Lieutenant. He participated in Operation Desert Storm as a Detachment Commander with 9th Communications Battalion. He subsequently requested orders to First Force Reconnaissance Company where he served a Force Reconnaissance Platoon commander after a brief period as the communications officer. In 1995, he led the Joint Special Operations Communications Support Element during Operation Desert Thunder.
LtCol Shea later served an electrical engineering instructor and rugby coach at the Naval Academy. The Naval Academy Class of 2003 made him an honorary graduate and their classmate because of his leadership, mentorship, and personal example. He deployed to Iraq in 2004 as the communications officer for the 1st Marine Regiment in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom II. On Tuesday, September 14, 2004, Major Kevin Shea died from injuries received due to enemy action in Al Anbar Province, Iraq.
Kevin is survived by his wife Amy, and their two children Brenna and Michael.
Requirements: We expect senior fellows to work with their assigned research fellow to publish one article per 6-month fellowship period.
How to apply: Send us a bio in any format at [email protected] if you are interested.
